Come Home to Green River
The writer Pat Conroy said, “A recipe is a story that ends with a good meal.” This book, Come Home to Green River: Recipes for Eating & Living, is an investigation into what makes a community, with the people who live here as the principal investigators.
Created to build community within this small rural town, this “recipe book” brought together contributions from more than 75 Green River residents, including high school students, restaurant owners, melon growers, cattle ranchers, river runners, and artists. This collection of recipes, both literal and figurative, explores what makes Green River, Green River.
Project Role: Editorial Director & Design Researcher
The Come Home to Green River initiative, launched by Epicenter in partnership with the City of Green River, combines downtown revitalization and economic investment efforts with arts and design activities. The fellowship was funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

“This “recipe book” is an attempt to gather some of the stories, traditions, sensory experiences, and cultural expressions that have grown, perhaps against the odds, into what a local called, “a deserted island that is close to our hearts.”
